I visited Rifle Range Nature Park with my family 2 weeks after it was officially opened. Filled with lush greenery right next to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, we spent a good 2 - 3 hours hiking. We started our hike from the connecting bridge which links Beauty World Plaza to the nature park at around 4pm. We walked past the visitor centre and walked inwards into the forest for around 5 minutes before we saw the Colugo deck which was right above a wetland.
We walked on dirt trails for another 10 minutes before reaching Colugo deck. It is a called the Colugo deck because it is shaped like the Colugo, a mammal which glides on trees. The walk to Colugo deck was scenic, with lush greens encountered throughout. There was a short queue when we arrived there, where people were taking turns to take photographs. We took a few photographs as well.
From here onwards, we hiked the Gaharu trail and exited at Jalan Kampong Chantek. From there, we walked past Murnane reservoir and reached Rifle Range Road, before entering the nature park again, this time using the Murnane trail. It led us back to the direction of the starting point and from there on, we headed back to Beauty World Plaza.
Overall, it was an enjoyable hike. Hiking in nature parks has always been enjoyable and this trail definitely did not disappoint. It is not a difficult hike and most people should be able to complete it safely. This nature park will draw visitors away from the heavily-used Bukit Timah Nature Park, thus ensuring our forest reserves remain healthy and are not damaged by extensive human footfall.
